Wassail 2026 Report

We held our first Wassail Event in late January 2026 to wake up the apples in Leek's community orchards.  A traditional practice that goes back about 1000 years was brought up to date by the first appearance of the Staffordshire Moorlands' very own six -foot high Curlew.

HuG 2025 Report

Our fifth Green Arts Festival (HuG) was a great success, helped along of course by glorious weather and the fabulous contributions of all our wonderful stallholders, entertainers, volunteers and of course the brilliant Foxlowe Café and staff. Also the brilliant Hedge Heads who were right in line with our hedgerows theme. Many thanks to Derek Hillyer, our Leek Mayor, and Bill Lomas, Town Crier, who set it off on a flying start.

Report on Moorlands Wild Week 2025

We've been running Wild Weeks with schools since 2022. This year our theme was on The Lost Words book, the aim being to help children re-connect with, learn about and appreciate aspects of Nature; for example, the wildlife, flowers and plants found on their Moorlands doorstep, whose names are dropping out of dictionaries.

Read about our overall plans here, along with a report of one of the sessions, run by Forest School leader, Lorna Stoddart.
