Many of you may be aware that July is always ‘Plastic-Free July’ in the plastic-free community. To celebrate this, we organised a plastic-free picnic. Unfortunately, we had to hold it on 1st August due to July being such a busy month.
We had a lovely time – the weather was kind to us even though it did threaten a shower at one point. (I know we’re desperate for rain but we didn’t want it then!!) The Quaker Meeting House also has a lovely garden, which was perfect. It’s a little oasis in the heart of town.
There were only about 10 of us there but it was lovely to have a relaxed social gathering and good chat as well as an informal SusCon meeting! We also discussed the challenge of making the whole picnic plastic-free – are you allowed bread out of a bread bag? Tupperware boxes? It’s a minefield!! The whole point is to get people thinking about their plastic use and how they can find ways to reduce it.

Also, huge congratulations to Blackshaw Moor First School who have worked really hard over the last few months and have finally achieved Plastic-Free School status. I’m hoping to go along in September and present them with their award.
