The Carbon Footprint of Everything...
When MCA was launched we took the opportunity to promote Mike Berners-Lee's treasure trove of a book How Bad are Bananas? The Carbon Footprint of Everything. Times have moved on and all figures in the new edition have been updated (from data centres to hosting a World Cup), and many new areas that have become a regular part of modern life – Twitter, the Cloud, Bitcoin, electric bikes and cars, even space tourism – are introduced. Berners-Lee runs a considered eye over each area and gives us the figures to manage and reduce our own carbon footprint, as well as to lobby our companies, businesses and government. His findings, presented in clear and even entertaining prose, are often surprising. And they are essential if we are to address the climate crisis. Available in all good bookshops and we know a local one that provides an excellent ordering service. We still have a few copies of the first edition left, lurking in an MCA cupboard. These are free to anyone who's happy with the older edition. Just send an e-mail to
